“ Going to Qinghua Chinese school allowed me to not only learn Mandarin but gave me other opportunities to make new friends, participate in poetry recitals, Chinese dance competitions and performances, and to present our annual Chinese Dragon Boat Festival celebrations. I learnt many useful skills and made long-lasting memories. Mandarin is a useful skill to have. As a lawyer in an international firm, sometimes I have been asked to do translations and facilitate discussions with clients in Mandarin. It also helped me to secure an international secondment to our Hong Kong office.

“invaluable experience that has significantly contributed to my career as a doctor.

One of the best benefits has been the bilingual education. Being fluent in both Chinese and English has allowed me to communicate effectively with a diverse patient population. This skill has not only improved patient care but also fostered a deeper understanding and trust between me and my patients.

In summary, my education at a Chinese school has equipped me with the linguistic skills, cultural competence, and professional attributes that are essential in the medical field. It has been a cornerstone of my development as a compassionate and effective doctor.

Laura Harley

“My name is Laura, I spent most Saturday mornings of my childhood at Qinghua Chinese School, studying for my GCSE Chinese exam and beyond. Learning to speak mandarin has been invaluable to me as it allows me to communicate with my family in China, but it has also become a useful skill professionally as China has become a huge part of the world economy. I graduated from Oxford University, now I work as an intellectual property Lawyer in London. I have many fond memories of my time at Qinghua Chinese School and am still in touch with friends I made there over a decade later!  ”
